Interdiction des plastiques : l'application de la réglementation ...Pollution is a major issue for our health and environment, severely affecting vulnerable populations such as children, the elderly, and those with preexisting medical conditions. It is identified as the leading environmental cause of numerous mental and physical illnesses, as well as premature deaths. In addition to its impact on human health, pollution also contributes to the loss of biodiversity, reducing ecosystems’ ability to provide crucial services such as carbon sequestration and decontamination.

Moreover, the European Commission is firmly committed to reducing microplastic pollution, as outlined in the European Green Deal and the new Circular Economy Action Plan. The Commission aims to reduce microplastic pollution by 30% by 2030, as part of the zero pollution vision for 2050. Among the goals set for 2030 is improving water quality, with a 50% reduction in marine plastic waste and a 30% reduction in microplastics released into the environment.

Reduction in Single-Use Plastics

In response to the urgent need to combat waste and pollution, drastic measures are being taken to gradually ban single-use plastic products. The global production of plastic reaches 432 million tons per year, making it the third-largest production after concrete and steel. In France, the annual consumption of plastic is 4.8 million tons, according to ADEME.

From January 1, 2025, single-use plastic packaging will be banned in collective catering under the laws “Egalim” (October 2018), “AGEC” (February 2020), and “Climate and Resilience” (August 2021). This ban is part of an effort to minimize the environmental impact of the food sector and promote sustainable practices. Single-use plastic packaging is a major source of pollution, and its elimination is essential to preserve the planet’s natural resources.
