Climate goals: do as I say, not as I do!
According to a report published last July by the Ministry of Ecological Transition in a progress report on the revision of the energy roadmap, France won’t achieve its climate goals until 2026, 3 years late.
The carbon budget will be exceeded because of sectors of transport and habitat.
58 million tons of carbon more than the quantities fixed was issued between 2014 and 2018 and 24 million tons between 2019 and 2023.
Final energy consumption will fall by 17% instead of 20% by 2030. The consumption of fossil fuels will fall by 44% instead of the 50% forecast for 2050.
Figures provided for the development of renewable energies will also slow down, 31% of renewable energy in the energy mix instead of the 32% forecast for 2030.
The impossible mission of Nicolas HULOT
During his radio visit where he announced his resignation, the former minister of ecological transition declared his incomprehension at the general indifference regarding the current ecological disaster.
Despite of his position in the government, he couldn’t give ecology his place in the presidential program.
He insinuated that he feared that by its mere presence we think that France is up to the standards in ecology, that greenwashing is being done.
N.HULOT said he was alone in the manoeuver and that the contradictory objectives of the various ministries made his mission impossible.
