The European Union and the challenge of energy efficiency in question.
The climate package is available as a comprehensive action plan for establishing a real common energy policy and fighting against climate change. This ambition is reflected by the target of 3 x 20 : a 20% reduction of greenhouse gas emissions ; a 20% improvement in energy efficiency ; a 20% share of renewable in EU energy consumption total .
The magnitude of the increase in energy consumption
One of the major concerns of the European Union and its Member States is the energy sector. This is a highly strategic sector, because it is the relay of growth and economic development within the European Union.Energy demand continues to achieve exponential records, which eventually raise concerns among the institutions of the European Union who want to score a brake on the increase in demand. To do this, the European Union has a diagnosis of the most energy-intensive sectors. To achieve this, it adopts a policy of energy efficiency.
Energy efficiency in question
The gross inland consumption of each EU Member State depends to a large extent, on the structure of its energy system, natural resources for primary energy production as well as on the structure and level of development of its economy. This applies not only to traditional fuels and nuclear power, but also to the renewables.
However, data from the residential sector has responded well to the various recommendations of European directives on the steps in the direction of reducing energy consumption. For example, the building sector is the largest energy consumer in Europe, with almost 40% of total consumption and 36% of greenhouse gas emissions. Lack of thermal insulation, poor building design are among others factors responsible for high energy character.
But 2015 saw decline of 6.35% of its final energy consumption, which has a strong impact on European energy policies. Rising energy prices weighed heavily on the choices and modes of supply of European industries, opting investing and on high-performance materials for energy efficiency. According to the experts, the importance of weather conditions has largely contributed to the precise quantification of the impacts of energy consumption.
In addition, in the transport sector, the situation remains nuanced and the evolution of energy consumption differs significantly depending on the mode of transport. With a rapid increase in aviation which has undergone an increase of 93.8%, while during the year 2015, no clear trend took shape in the evolution of the energy consumption in that sector. To sum up, we must remember that the degree and the different objectives of energy efficiency measures differ widely from one state to another.
